Job Description

Assistant Electrical Designer

We are looking for a motivated Assistant Electrical Designer to join our project team. This role will provide support across multiple stages of design and documentation, contributing to a wide range of projects in diverse industries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of electrical designs such as schematics, power distribution systems, lighting layouts, and control/protection systems.
  • Prepare drawings and documentation from sketches, verbal direction, or general design concepts using CAD software.
  • Assist with setting up CAD standards, file management, and drawing procedures at the start of each project.
  • Support project teams with calculations, layouts, and design refinements for both 2D and 3D deliverables.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers across disciplines to resolve technical or design challenges.
  • Apply relevant codes, standards, and specifications to ensure design compliance.
  • Maintain accurate drawing revisions, project records, and documentation in an organized manner.
  • Complete assigned tasks within budget and schedule requirements.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Education and experience in one of the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Drafting Technology or related field plus 2 years of relevant experience, OR
  • Associate degree plus 3 years of related experience, OR
  • High school diploma plus 4 years of progressive detailing/design experience.
  • (Note: Engineering bachelor’s degrees from ABET-accredited programs do not meet the requirements for this role.)
  • Proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience using both 2D and 3D applications for engineering drawings.
  • Solid understanding of electrical design fundamentals and ability to apply them to project work.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal.
