Job Description

The Kiln Attendant is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the consistent flow of materials into the kiln system in a lime processing facility. This role ensures that feed materials meet quality and quantity specifications and supports efficient kiln operation by performing routine inspections, adjustments, and housekeeping tasks. Responsibilities include operating and monitoring equipment used to feed limestone into the kilns, ensuring proper material flow, performing routine inspections of conveyors, hoppers, feeders, and other related equipment, cleaning bins, conveyors, spills, and other cleaning duties, observing and reporting any condition that could lead to equipment failure or safety hazards, communicating with kiln operators and control room personnel, collecting and recording data on material feed rates and system performance, assisting with minor maintenance tasks, maintaining cleanliness and organization of the kiln feed area, following safety protocols and wearing PPE, reporting operational or safety problems, operating heavy equipment such as haul truck, bobcat, and front end loader safely, assisting in kiln outage work, completing equipment and work area inspections, performing general plant labor, cross training in other areas, and other duties as assigned. The role requires an industrial background with troubleshooting skills, knowledge of environmental regulations related to the lime industry, ability to perform basic math calculations, flexibility to work shifts including holidays and overtime, ability to operate heavy equipment safely, understanding of material handling systems, attention to detail, experience in lime, cement, or similar industries, familiarity with kiln operations preferred, effective communication skills, and ability to operate a computer preferred. Physical demands include working shifts, lifting up to 50 pounds, safe operation of vehicles, tolerance to severe weather and industrial conditions, and access to all site areas including heights and confined spaces. Education required is a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, with technical training or associate’s degree preferred. Previous laborer experience is required, with industrial or manufacturing labor experience and loader operator experience preferred.
