Position Overview
Investment Directors (IDs) on the Private Investment team spend the majority of their time sourcing and underwriting investment managers. This includes meeting with managers; attending annual meetings; networking with industry participants to gather market intelligence and identifying promising new managers. All of this culminates in conducting due diligence on high conviction managers for investment by the firm and its clients. The role entails serving as a primary point of contact and interaction for private equity and growth equity investment managers, coordinating and attending meetings and producing written assessments and facilitating the flow of manager information internally.
In addition, the Investment Director is responsible for actively monitoring and evaluating managers on an ongoing basis, producing written evaluations for firm and client use. The Investment Director is also expected to work closely with, and support the development of, Investment Analysts and Associates.
Finally, the Investment Director will work closely and collaboratively across the broader Cambridge Associates private investments team to track and analyze industry trends and information and produce research pieces as well as serve as a resource for client-facing colleagues building high quality private investment portfolios for our clients.
Job Responsibilities
Serve as a key resource indeveloping investment assessments of private equity and growth equity managers and markets through ongoing qualitative and quantitative research and analysis.
Serve as a resource in developing investment assessments on other private investment fund strategies and geographies as part of the global Private Investments team.
Utilize common analytical frameworks and develop analyses to assess private equity and growth equity funds in terms of organization, investment strategy, performance, fund terms, current portfolio companies, and other key attributes.
Lead meetings with general partners, management teams, and other relevant professionals to assess and evaluate investment managers and their funds.
Lead reference calls regarding investment opportunities and market views with industry participants.
Produce written assessments and recommendations utilized by our clients and colleagues to support investment decisions. For funds, this includes detailed diligence reports backed by meetings, factual analyses, and references; and for the market, this entails periodic research reports on current topics of interest.
Monitor market trends and contribute to CAs thought leadership in private investments.
Serve as a resource to colleagues and clients seeking current information on investment opportunities and markets, including data and analysis, comparisons across fund managers, and the investment views of the Private Investments team.
Represent the firm at certain meetings with clients, prospects and at industry events to further the firms thought leadership and assist with business development
Contribute to secondaries and co-investment investment evaluations, when appropriate.
Qualifications
MBA, CFA, or other relevant professional qualifications strongly preferred
Relevant investment experience and familiarity with private investments preferred, gained from work at a large institutional investor, private equity investment or advisory firm
Demonstrated qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience performing relevant financial analysis and modeling for private investments and ideally some experience with limited partnership agreements
Ability to assign priorities to multiple requests for information, while ensuring integrity, accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of data
Ability to work independently and under time constraints
Demonstrated relationship-building skills
The base salary range for this role is 135,400 to 181,000. In addition to the listed salary range, this position is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus and a comprehensive, competitive benefits package. Actual placement within the stated salary range will be determined based on factors such as skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as internal equity.
