Job Description

Summary A mold designer will create a mold design from a part database or part print. They will be expected to communicate with the lead mold designer to gather information. They will make suggestions to improve the mold design. All design work will be done using Siemens NX software. Education and/or Experience Associate degree (A. A.), two-year college degree, technical school degree, or equivalent on-the-job training. Experience using Siemens NX design software to construct wireframe, surface or solid models for manufacturing is required. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals. People Skills The human interaction required of the incumbent to complete his/her project or task. Ability to interface with vendors, coworkers and management, maintaining positive communications and relations. Mathematical Skills Ability to apply trigonometry and geometry to tasks. Computer Skills Must be proficient using Siemens NX or similar 3D CAD/CAM software (Catia, ProE) to construct complex 3D models in wireframe, surface or solid geometry. Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form. Job Knowledge Must have demonstrated knowledge/understanding of: Ability to design complex molds from database and part prints (multi-cavity, lifters, cams, slides, and hydraulic core pulls). Ability to understand draft and texture requirements for parts and molds. Must understand cooling requirements for efficient molding. Must have a thorough knowledge of different gating methods, including hot runner systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Create preliminary mold design Add draft to part file as required. Create full 3-D data base of mold design Add auxiliary components to design as required (slides, lifters) Recommend design changes to lead mold designer Review tool design checklist Fill out the preliminary order sheet Create and/or update part file Review part design checklist Check part file for moldability Update assembly drawings with all changes to database Create final order sheet Obtain and utilize supplies and materials necessary to complete the database Catalogs Plastics information Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
