What’s the role

Primary responsibilities include supporting Shell Energy Regulatory Affairs through participation in federal and regional regulatory agency processes, communicating regulation changes and impacts, supporting commercial transactions within existing regulations, and coordinating advocacy efforts.

What you’ll be doing

  • Eligible to work in the USA without sponsorship requirements
  • Able to work a hybrid schedule
  • Participate in proceedings before federal agencies such as FERC, CFTC, and DOE
  • Coordinate comments and advocacy with regional Regulatory Affairs Staff on issues affecting gas, power marketing, carbon, and trading activities; report developments to relevant groups
  • Coordinate meetings with legal and compliance teams to ensure awareness of activities
  • Monitor legislative activity at federal and state levels; coordinate with Corporate Relations for messaging and information sharing
  • Support trade association activities for advocacy and information access
  • Include market behavior rule changes in Regulatory Affairs training
  • Review rules and conduct due diligence on projects and deals
  • Support Shell Energy’s Regulatory Affairs initiatives, aligning with commercial priorities
  • Manage outside counsel costs and participation in regulatory activities
  • Analyze wholesale gas and electricity market design changes and suggest improvements
  • Prepare reports and communicate responses to regulatory inquiries
  • Some US travel required

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years industry experience in energy regulation, mainly in the U.S. with agencies like FERC, CFTC, DOE
  • Knowledge of existing and proposed gas and power regulations in the U.S.
  • Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to operate effectively in a challenging, dynamic environment
  • Understanding of regulatory processes and strong technical writing skills
  • Experience in power market design and rule changes (highly desirable)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with regulatory staff and commissioners
  • Ability to analyze government policies and communicate impacts to commercial teams
  • Technical or commercial knowledge of retail and wholesale gas, power, and carbon markets; understanding of compliance issues

What we offer

The salary range is $146,000 - $218,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
